The therapeutic value of water has long been acclaimed for its ability to aid in the body’s healing process. Today, the benefits provided by hydrotherapy (including its use in physical conditioning, cardiovascular fitness, and social integration) are becoming widely recognized.
San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Hospital offers both aquatic exercise and aquatic physical therapy programs. All of our programs take place in the only therapeutic pool in the Valley. Our warm water therapy pool is maintained between 92-95 degrees, a higher temperature than typical fitness center pools.
Our pool is 4 feet deep with a handrail around the perimeter. A special lift chair is available to assist those in wheelchairs into the pool. Aquatic therapy participants have access to a changing area, shower, and locker facility.

Exercise or Therapy?
To determine whether an aquatic exercise or aquatic therapy program is the right fit, please review the following information.
Our Aquatic Exercise & Community-Based Programs
Hydro Conditioning (Beginner and Intermediate)
Classes consist of a low to moderate-intensity exercise program, which includes range-of-motion, flexibility, strengthening, and limited cardiovascular exercises. Each class is approximately 45 minutes.
Hydro Fitness (Advanced)
Classes consist of water aerobics for cardiovascular conditioning and muscle strengthening. This class is geared toward participants with minimal or no physical limitations. Each class is approximately 1 hour.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program
Non-aerobic class designed by the Arthritis Foundation. Exercises focus on mobility and strengthening. Our class is led by an instructor who has been certified through the Arthritis Foundation.
Fibromyalgia Programs
Warm water therapy is a useful means to help manage the symptoms of fibromyalgia. San Joaquin Valley Rehabilitation Outpatient Center offers one-on-one aquatic therapy sessions with a physical therapist, as well as structured group exercise classes. Aquatic exercise can help improve fitness, fatigue, sleep, and pain.
